What Will We Do When is a site-specific installation that explores the relationship between architecture, collaboration and curation. The exhibition came from a desire to orchestrate a group show with a collection of artist who's common ground was that they shared a studio complex (The Motorcycle Showroom, Bristol 2010 - 2014).
Based on the aesthetic of manmade structures within national parks, the exhibition invited the audience to travel along a purpose built structure designed by Jo Lathwood. The constructed path probes the value and purpose of the ‘organised experience’ - a common trait in travel and tourism. The installation contained over 70 metres of wooden slatted pathway that weaved within a 10m by 25m by 3.6m space. Through collaboration with Lathwood, 9 artists showcase new works in reaction to the structure and space.
Each artist’s work has affected the aesthetic and layout of the structure and therefore created an exhibition that is neither a collaboration or a group show but a different format of exhibition that lies somewhere between these two expected modes.
