Over the course of Lathwood’s practice, ladders have been important symbol of change, desire and aspiration. They are the quintessential tools to get over something, to conquer obstacles and shift a view point.
During the Covid-19 lockdown she started a new series of gouache paintings of very small ladders on paper. the ladders were either drawn from imagination, observation or sent in by individuals also enthused by ladders.
This ongoing series is part of the Artist Support Pledge initiated by artist Mathew Burrows. The concept is simple. You post images of art work for sale for £200 or less (not including postage) on Instagram. Anyone can buy the work. Every time you reach £1000 of sales you pledge to buy another artist’s work for £200.
